Blog assignment

Assignment 1) Create a blog. You will then use the blog to post entries in response to five specific tasks. Each post should be around 2 paragraphs. These are the posts you need to create. I will list them first, and then go into more detail later.
a) Blogging Post
Provide your thoughts on how a blog could be used by a classroom teacher. Also, provide your thoughts on how a blog could be used by a Teacher-Librarian, especially if the blog was a part of their library web site. Explore the possibilities…
b) RSS Post
Provide your thoughts on how the Google RSS Reader could be used to help you develop professionally as a TL. Also, provide your thoughts on how an RSS reader could be used in your library curriculum, especially in terms of teaching students how to research.
c) CALIBK12 Post
Write about the content of a couple emails you received through subscribing to CALIBK12. Discuss how belonging to CALIBK12 could benefit you professionally.
d) Wiki Post
Provide some insights on what you learned. Include your thoughts on how wikis could be used by a classroom teacher or by a Teacher-Librarian.
e) Creative Commons Post
Explain in your words what Creative Commons is. How does Creative Commons differ from standard copyright? Why is knowing about Creative Commons important to you, both as an individual and as a Teacher-Librarian?

Blogging Post
As a classroom teacher blogs could be used to provide feedback to the teacher. Some teachers use journals for student to write a daily diary or as a writer’s notebook. That same journal can be in the form of a blog that the teacher and students can read and comment on. As the students write their thoughts and feelings in the blog, other classmates may empathize with the student; this can show a sense of community in the classroom. As far as the writer’s notebook, as a student writes a narrative, expository paper, or poetry, the teacher can provide feedback immediately. Blogs are also nice because you can get an email showing which classmate has edited.
A Teacher Librarian can use a blog to promote books in their library. By blogging the latest books, students can respond by giving a review or show their excitement for the new book. A blog is a simple way that student get any new info in promotion of the library.
Blogs are in chronological order and can be seen either by subscribers or anyone with access to the WWW. You can post an entry and users comment. There is some flexibility because you can have links on your blog, you can manage content, and the entries are preset.
RSS Post
RSS feeds are excellent to keep up with current events. A TL can use an RSS feed to teach research using articles about current events. The feed would be taken from reputable sources so that the students are not bombarded with “junk” from the internet.
The Google RSS Reader can be used to develop professionally as a TL by keeping up-to-date with current trends in libraries, the state of CA, and education. By keeping up with technology, the TL’s lessons and professional development to the staff is current and innovative.
CALIBK12 Post
I have been subscribed to CALIBK12 for over three years now. CALIBK12 has given me a sense of belonging in the library world. I know that I am not alone with library issues when I read about how other librarians/teacher librarians have the same questions. I have responded to someone’s post about classroom management in the library. It was nice sharing what I had in-place in my library and hearing what other TL’s had.
I have shared on CALIB because a library teacher wanted to know how to manage students in the library. This was someone’s response to my input on the topic.


Wiki Post
Wikis are very interesting because they are free game. Anyone can edit a wiki. Because anyone can edit one, they have received a bad reputation. Some educators refuse their students to even use them. I understand that wikis should not be part of the works cited page, but they can be a great source to generate inquiries about a subject.
One ways Wikis can help me teach is by rewriting a wiki on wikipedia. By rewriting a wiki in front of the students and posting false information, the students can see that anything can be posted online and not everything online is creditable.
Creative Commons Post
Standard copyright states that anything that is published is considered to have copyrights. Creative Commons is a site releases the publisher from some of their rights in order to share. Creative Commons believes that in order to be a productive society, new inventions and innovations must occur. Many new inventions can be manipulated to make greater things but not if there is a copyright on it. Creative Commons lets the publisher give-up their some of their rights for the society’s greater good.
Creative Commons is a site that uses symbols on a publisher’s product to show the rights the publisher is giving the viewer. Creative commons is important to me as an individual and as a TL because I enjoy sharing my work. By posting a Creative Commons copyright symbol on it, I can share my work in the manner that I please.
