PR Poster

Minerva Samayoa
ELIB 570
Standard 21
Access
Each candidate demonstrates knowledge and skill in developing a school
library media program dedicated to providing all students and staff open and
equitable physical and intellectual access to information and ideas.
Rationale
The school library media teacher must be able to provide intellectual and
physical access to information, technology, ideas, and skills needed to provide
for diverse cultural and ethnic needs, ever changing societal and career
needs, and higher order thinking skills appropriate to all functions across
disciplines.
Factors to Consider
When an evaluation team judges whether a program meets this
standard, the Commission expects the team to consider the extent to
which each candidate acquires the knowledge and skill to:
Develop a plan to provide open access to all library resources at all times
for all students and staff.
My PR poster is geared to standard 21 because it deals with equal access. My library is dedicated to providing equal access to all students, teachers, staff, and parents. Some of the parents and staff at Harte do not know that they can use the library. I have many of the parents stand outside the library doors waiting for their child/ren. When I invite them in, they are surprised by the invitation. By making the poster, my parents will feel welcome to come into the library and use the resources it provides. Some of the staff feel that they can’t use the library because they are not certificated teachers. Some of the staff feel embarrased to come and ask for materials or to use the library. By providing the poster, that population will also feel welcome.
As far as the design of the poster, I am definitely not creative. Because of my lack of creativity, I have turned myself into a minimalist in décor and art projects. To me, less is much neater. I made the color of the poster to be white, black, and blue. I added a picture of my students in the library. To make the poster look more authentic to the district, I added the district logo.
I have learned to use some of the elements of Fireworks. It is a great program that has endless posibilities. Now, I see designs out in the street or on peoples web pages and I start to think about how they made them using programs like FIREWORKS.
